Changarrito Makes an Appearance at PrintAustin, Texas

Changarrito  at  PrintAustin  Artist  Mark Puente  exhibited his work through  Changarrito during  PrintAustin’s PrintExpo at the  Museum of Human Achievement  on  February 11, 2017  PrintAustin is dedicated to the Austin art community and galleries in its mission to share an enthusiasm for printmaking. Mark Puente (1977, Boston, Massachusetts) draws inspiration from folk art, growing up in Guatemala, and the art and imagery of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). His pen and ink illustrations take on new life and meaning, as they are laser-etched onto milk-paint finished wood and other mediums. Mark also has a burgeoning interest in exploring the practice of printmaking. These modern folk works are produced in Mark’s East Austin home and s tudio, Nailivic Studios. His wife, Amy Exah, assists on the creative and business sides of the studio. The name is derived from the spelling of “civilian” backwards, and draws its roo...

El proyecto Changarrito es fundando en el 2004 por el artista Máximo González, quien lo concibe como una plataforma alternativa para promover, apoyar, actuar y exhibir el trabajo de artistas visuales, escritores, poetas, curadores, diseñadores, performers, cineastas, etc. Qué es el Changarrito: Fiel a la misión del Museo Mexic-Arte, el Changarrito se dedica a la presentación y promoción del arte latinoamericano y latino contemporáneo. Los artistas tendrán la oportunidad de vender su arte en el carrito de Changarrito frente al Museo (o en un lugar externo, como representante del Museo durante varios festivales de arte de Austin) mientras se quedan con el 100% de las ventas. El compromiso de tiempo es de cuatro días en dos fines de semana, sábado y domingo de 12:00 a 15:00 horas. Raised in a traditional conservative family, his work largely centers on body image, selfidentity as a gay man. Villalobos explores traditional "masculine" objects and softens the virility of these objects. By making subtle ambiguities, the macho-ness of these  objects become delicate.
